Some days you are the windshield...

Post by Tom Wells »

Saturday began at 5AM with a 2+ hour drive to the American Muscle Car Museum in Melbourne for an autocross sponsored by Hagerty Insurance, followed by a private showing of the American Muscle Car Museum.

Things went swimmingly until near the end of the day, as you'll see later...

First, tech inspection and sticking on the numbers:

Then on the track, which was a delight! The best laid out autocross track I've been on - lots of fun to drive - I was carving seconds off each time I ran:

Then to the museum for lunch and to see the nearly 300 cars in this wonderful collection, starting with an original GT40 MKII:

And eight GTs surrounding an original Cobra in the center of the lobby:

Followed by a visit to the other 280+ cars in the huge building behind the lobby. A wonderful set of cars of all makes - something for everyone.

Then, disaster! Earlier, while in line in the parking lot, I punched the throttle instead of the brake and crashed into the rear of a Subaru SUV:

No injuries, a damaged bumper cover on the Subaru, and total (if temporary) loss of ego on my part...
We drove the Cobra home and I'm now trying to plan the nose job for the Cobra. Sympathy accepted, sarcasm rejected ~~:OO:

Oh crap Tom, sorry to see this. Glad no one was hurt. It's certainly not the cobra's first brush with carnage.

Oh man......Tom, you surely have my heartfelt sympathy. Worse than any ego hit is having to look at what has happened. All will be right, of course. But boy, this sucks. :(

Tom,

Feeling the need to point out what should be obvious to someone who has been operating motorized devices as long as you have...

Mike,

I have studied your graphic assiduously most of the afternoon, and still can't figure it out. After I get the Cobra repaired I plan to tape it to the inside of the windshield to see if that helps. Not sure what that pedal on the left is for...
