Daytona in the morning

With our new "local" tech inspector the cobra passed with no trouble. (but as always they seem to bring up another thing that was not asked before.)
This time he looked for a "Z" rating on the tires. I'm using the Nitto 01's which are rated for 150 or so as I recall but sense they are not Street tires I don't think that it says "Z" anywhere. But he gave up looking after a short while in the dusk lighting and gave me the sticker anyway.

I've moved my camera mount to another location...hope I can get a few laps that look good.

Ken,

Back from Georgia but too late to do what the Cobra needed to run with you. Sigh...

Have fun & I'll be there with you in spirit!

First a little warning. This link is about 20mins long and the quality is still shaky. I tried the best that I could to calm it down. First the iPhone mount fell off in the first session. So I duct taped it to the dash. It was still shaky on the 2nd session so I duct taped the iPhone to the dash also...this helped on the up part of the vibration but it still could wiggle down. So it is what is. As always click on the "gear" in the lower right and pick HD to make it better quality.
This is the entire 3rd session. I had the most fun in this one. The Time Trial cars went out first then the PDX (me-PDX just runs for fun..not points or trophies) pulled in behind them. The deal is you don't pass until the car in front until they signal that they see you. So you hunt them down and get in their mirrors and then blow them away.
For most of the day there was not a car that I could not totally eat up on the banks and straights. Granted I am still so-so on the twisty bits in the infield.
I'll post a couple short one lap videos that have my best times and top speed soon. I cut 8 seconds off my best time that I had in the August Track day ..]
I also set a new personal top speed at 142mph(not in this set of laps, it is only about 139). And this is after the banked turns that I only run about 2/3 throttle.(as I'm in the banking I can see all those suspension parts in my mind being loaded up and breaking and my foot just keeps lifting.. O] ).According to the math my gearing in 4th at 6krpm is right at 150.If I would run 5th OD all the way down the long straights I think it would take off and I might need to look up my old Flying License. lol.. The new motor is much more powerful. I'm hitting the rev limiter way sooner than before. I am now using 5 gear overdrive to keep from hitting the 6K limit that I have set, I'm getting there before I exit Nascar turns 2 and 4.The old motor didn't get there until about the flag stand after the dog leg.

Ken,

Sincere envy!

Looks like you had a ball; glad the new engine worked very well.

I rested yesterday so I got around to taking the car out of the trailer today.
After starting there was a really bad rattle.
Strange type of rattle. It sounded like a loose pully a or something. But I only have the one belt and pully and they were ok.
I put it on the lift and looked and felt around. Found it quickly. Good news is it is not internal, bad news is I need another harmonic balancer. This is the second one of this model I've had go bad. As I only spin the motor to 6000 rpm I really am surprised at that this keeps being an issue. Time to upgrade to racing quality.

I'm also going to upgrade to a road racing pan before the next track day. Along with a small high toque started while I'm in there.

It's nice to have a hot rod....one always knows where all the spare money goes.
