Longer than Earl's Odyssey and heart-warming...

Post by Tom Wells »

Scott Brooke has housed, worked on and supported the CACC (Capital Area Cobra Club) web site for more than 16 years. During that time, he has had a family, had to find new employment and to top it off, hasn't really had time to perfect any Cobra building skills. That didn't stop him: he bought a Factory Five kit fifteen years ago and has been working on it ever since, at a pace that makes Earl's car project look like a rocketship.

A group from the CACC decided to Overhaul it. So they got it out of Scott's garage on the pretense (and with the full complicity of Scott's wife) that they would finish it for him in Scott Harrison's garage over the following several months.

They took it instead to the traveling FFV builder's garage (Mark Dougherty) in PA where Mark, his son and another employee finished the whole thing in one frenetic week (less paint). Last Sunday they brought it back at 10AM to have Scott come over and help work on it at noon, surprising him completely. About 60 of the CACC folks contribute to pay Mark; any excess went to Scott to help with paint cost.

With that background, here are two CACC links that kinda tell the story. The first is the public one that Scott could see and the second was started by Scott after they revealed the car in full running condition - all of the donation effort etc was done by direct e-mail so Scott was unaware of it:

The video links toward the end of the second URL are from the reveal - the guy in the car in the second video is Scott Brooke.

Fun story.
