Track Night in America comes to Daytona!

Post by Tom Wells »

Daytona International Speedway on August 1st, 2019 will host an event called Track Night in America.

If you've ever wanted to drive the Daytona Rolex course, now's your chance!

The full details can be found here: https://www.tracknightinamerica.com/eve ... a-august-1

In a nutshell, you can do this event even if you have zero track experience, and participate at a level that is comfortable to you. There are opportunities for track "parade laps" all the way up to "as fast as your pucker allows."

All you need is long pants, a shirt, closed toed shoes and a helmet. And a street car that is licensed and insured. If it's a convertible, there are added requirements you can read about on the page below. If it's a non street legal race car, you might not be allowed into this event. There is a Track Event the following day that you can sign up for. See my other SCCA post in this forum.

So study the link, and also the What to Expect page here: https://www.tracknightinamerica.com/pag ... -to-expect

And register to come out and play!

Well, the Novice and Intermediate slots are taken.

You can still do parade laps around the 3.5 mile Rolex 24-Hour course: this is what their schedule says
7:00PM - Track Tour Laps (Open to All)
Uh, the schedule also says
* Times are an approximation (Weather and on-track issues can play havoc with a schedule, and sometimes officials might have to improvise to make sure everyone gets the most out of the event.)
so be flexible!

Also, don't forget about the SCCA Track Event on Friday viewtopic.php?f=5&t=285

This one requires a bit of experience; you can read the requirements from this link: https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/di ... cca-470287

Mike,

I think that's for the on-line registration. Possibly registration can be done at the track on Friday morning also.

If you go here: https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/di ... cca-470287 and download the final rules PDF, you can see the schedule there. They are doing tech inspections Thurs afternoon around 4PM and I think again on Friday morning.

I'm still planning for Friday. Some of the 5-day forecasts have low rain chances till after 3pm.
It will just be me. Tim really wanted me to take him around but that fell thru so he is staying and working in the Triumph.
He is going back on Tuesday.

Ken,

Spectator entry and parade laps Thursday are free.

Also, Hardin or I would be happy to take him around in either car - both have passenger side roll bars and 5-point harnesses. Tim's choice.

The parade laps are at 7PM today (weather cooperating) - not sure what time they are supposed to happen on Friday. If he wants to be on a pit crew for Friday, that's no extra charge either.
