Amelia Island VIntage Gran Prix

Post by Avalanche325 »

This weekend. 3/16 - 3/19 at the Fernandina Beach Airport.

2 - 289 Cobras
1 - 427 Cobra
3 - Shelby Mustangs
1 - Lotus Cortina

And before you ask......Yes! They're real!

Can-Am cars, pre-war, and everything else up to the 80s, running full out.

You can go into the paddock, talk to the owners / drivers etc. I have been to vintage races in Daytona. Sat in a real Cobra, met Brian Johnson from AC/DC and Cars that Rock, etc. It's fun to see how the 1% plays.

I am going on Sat.

I believe that there were three 289 Cobras. A gray/red one, a princess blue Le Mans winning one with a hardtop, and a guardsman blue one with flares. The 427 had the FIA type wheels on it suggesting that it was an early car, but I didn't check the VIN. There were indeed three real GT350s, one clone and I believe a 67 Shelby Mustang (from the Trans Am series back then) coupe.

One 427 and three 289s. Three GT 350s and a Shelby American team Mustang.
These are all owned by one person! The mechanic said it was "a selection" of the guys cars.

It was all fun to watch until the Portifino (or princess) blue and the grey car took each other out! There was some serious body damage to both.
