If I had lived in Florida instead of Ohio

Post by mooreken »

As many of you know, I was a dirt circle tracker racer in my youth in Ohio. As such I had not given much thought to road racing. I jumped into Late Model racing which is the top tier, but soon saw that I needed to drop back to Hobby Stock to gain race craft knowledge.
While it was a lower class of racing it was a lot of fun building and learning what it took to make a car go fast and turn left on dirt.

I've been watching a bit of Mazda Spec racing on YouTube and Facebook running at Daytona. It looks like so much fun for the money invested. Of course, as a former racing owner driver I know money is always spent to go faster but still remembering my Hobby Stock days and the money it took to run near the front I think it would have been a great time. I am envious of William's youth and the adventures he is going to have.... :handgestures-thumbup:

And having Daytona as a "Home Track" only an hour away is a bonus.

We had a small racetrack here in St Aug that closed back in the early 2000s. It was located near the airport, and it was originally a dirt track, but eventually was paved. It was fun to go watch local racing on Fridays and Saturdays, but the most fun class to watch by far, as far as I'm concerned, were the Hobby Stocks...those guys didn't hold back at all!!!

Btw, the track is now the Saltwater gun range...still a fun place to go... 8-)

The Volusia county race track was fun also, they have both dirt and paved tracks, the Legends cars were great to see.
