Differential upgrade

Post by mooreken »

When I bought my kit from Hunter (I just talked to him and he is making cars again) he asked me if I was going to run a Big Block. I told him no so he picked up a small block automatic donor car.
I have to admit I knew a lot about corvette body and basic mechanical stuff. But I had never heard any thing about the Dana 36 vs Dana 44 durability. And as I wasn’t planning to do track days it didn’t matter at the time.

It took a while but my gradual HP evolution finally broke the Dana 36.
I will have to make some modifications to the differential carrier but not too much fab work. I’ll post the process here.

PS my Covid experience is on the downhill side so should be in the shop in a few days.

Ken,

Looks great!

It is aluminum? I thought that was auto trans only?

Tom

No it’s steel, just painted to look good on eBay

The batwing is aluminum..of course I’ll be cutting all that off to just leave a rear cover.

Dana 36 and 44 cases are both aluminum. D36 is auto trans, D44 is manual trans.

Ken, how much did it cost you? Curious to know current pricing.

Alignment complete. I was really happy that I didn't have to reset the steering wheel. That gives me confidence that I have it back to where it was.
