The motor is pretty well buttoned up at this point. Aviaid pan and water pump are installed. Crank, alternator and water pump pulleys are all nicely aligned after buying a 5/8” crank spacer to replace the previously installed 1/2” spacer. The AC brackets just need to be shimmed out 1/8” to be properly aligned, we shall see.

I spent some time drilling and tapping holes in the intake manifold. One up front to better position the temp sender in the water passage, and two in the back to vent any steam pockets back to the expansion tank.

Next up is to repair the clutch bolt holes in the aluminum flywheel, they’re pretty well chewed up and one is drilled/tapped OS, so I have to decide which way to go with it. I think the easiest path is to enlarge and tap the other five holes to match the OS hole…

BTW, would it be practical to HeliCoil the clutch bolts? I'm sure I have some HeliCoil pieces - whether they're the right size or whether they can be found are other questions...

The set needs a 21/64 bit. The only one I could find here is about a foot long - you're welcome to any of it you wish.

I was thinking about getting the Cobra out in a bit - I can drop them off.

Thx for dropping it off Tom! I have a 21/64 drill bit in a typical length, so that should work out. I fashioned a drill guide that should ensure straight drilled holes. I’ll post pictures tomorrow when I go through it, had too many distractions today.

Got a late start today due to a few unforeseen distractions, so only got a few done…

The drill guide worked out well, holes were drilled straight and the tap had no problem following the hole. I lined up each hole with the starter opening in the backing plate so I could drill and tap with no interference.
