We'd been aware that alligators use sticks across their noses to lure nesting birds at the Alligator Farm to become the alligator's lunch, but were not aware there is a technical paper published about this activity.
Alligators in the Alligator Farm have been observed doing this - Kay and I have seen it - but also it has been documented elsewhere, in India and Louisiana.

It's worth the read to become reoriented about this facet of reptile behavior and intelligence. Enjoy!
